Urbani Truffles
The Italian truffle company is opening its new American headquarters at 10 West End Avenue on the corner of 60th Street. The new store serves as “a combination showroom, demonstration kitchen and sales office,” the New York Times says. You can get truffle oil, truffle paste, truffle sauces… And by “you,” we mean someone richer than you.

Unnamed Boulud restaurant
Daniel Boulud will open an unnamed French-inspired restaurant with a big bar and grilled food at 64th Street and Broadway this winter. (The New York Post)

Mel’s Burger Bar
The owners of the restaurant on 110th and Broadway we told you about in May wrote in to let us know more about their opening, scheduled for August: “We’re going to be a great addition to the neighborhood- family friendly but with a full bar, 20 beers on tap, and 5 flat screens. Though we are a ‘Burger Bar’ we’ll have plenty of other things to choose from- salads, delicious appetizers and sides, ribs, quesadillas, etc.”

Flywheel Sports
The indoor cycling fitness club co-founded by Tiki Barber opened a new location at the JCC on 76th and Amsterdam a couple of months ago.

Barber Shop 72
A new barber shop on 72nd Street just East of Columbus Avenue. Plus, free lollipops!

Sasa
A new lounge has just opened at Columbus Avenue and 106th Street, Columbus-Amsterdam BID president Peter Arndtsen tells us.

Crumbs
The new Crumbs inside the Harrison has opened next door to Giggle on Amsterdam between 76th and 77th. That means the old one one block South has closed. Don’t fret! The new one’s bigger and brighter.

Peter’s
The restaurant and bar at 68th Street and Columbus closed at the end of June after failing to find a buyer. (thanks to tipster Cliff)

Sexy new California jeans are coming to 71st and Columbus Avenue, in the former home of Godiva chocolates. I’m told that $200 is standard for a nice pair of jeans these days. Damn I’m poor.

Zen Palate
The vegetarian fusion restaurant is opening up at 105th Street and Broadway in the former home of French bistro Metisse.

Petco Unleashed
The pet store on 68th and Columbus we told you about earlier now has an opening date: June 21. As we understand it, Petco Unleashed is like Petco except smaller, with a “hip attitude.” They promise “fun and refreshments” on opening day.

Stoopher & Boots
Baby bling and other accessories are now available at this Brooklyn import on Amsterdam Avenue between 78th and 79th Street. A floor-to-ceiling chalkboard “gets your crative juices flowing” as will the aromatherapy play-dough ($28), owner Stephanie Goldstein tells us. Also, no Upper West Side kid is complete without Swarovksi crystal blinged-out Converse, of course.

Berrywild

West Side Health Food
The health food store on Broadway between 96th and 97th Street is shutting down at the end of the month, and selling almost everything for 30% off.

GC William
The women’s clothing boutique at 111 72nd Street just West of Columbus has closed. A location at 84th and Madison, however, is still open.

Arpeggio Outdoors
Lincoln Center opened an outdoor cafe that will be serving food and drinks in the centrally located Josie Robertson Plaza through July 30. Check out our write-up here.

Burberry Brit
The British have invaded, setting up shop right next to the Ugg shop on Columbus between 67th and 68th Streets.

Atlantic Grill Lincoln Center
A new seafood restaurant run by B.R. Guest Restaurants will be opening up in late August in the spot that O’Neal’s is vacating (see below) at 64th Street near Broadway.

Naturino
Greenstones, a kids’ clothing store on Columbus between 81st and 82nd Street is moving down the block, and soon it will open a companion Italian shoe store next door called Naturino. (thanks to tipster Glark)

Big Daddy’s
As we told you earlier, the 80’s style diner is open and serving on 91st Street and Broadway.

Ditch Plains
The West Village fish shack is planning to expand into BarBao’s old space at 100 West 82nd Street by September.

Ollie’s To Go
The noodle shop is opening a new takeout spot on Broadway between 89th and 90th Streets.

SHUT:
David Rubenstein Atrium
Lincoln Center’s David Rubenstein Atrium on Broadway between 62nd and 63rd Streets is temporarily closed for construction, meaning no free Thursday concerts and no ‘wichcraft for a few weeks. It will reopen on July 19. Click here to find out where at Lincoln Center to get discounted tickets and tours in the meantime. (My Upper West)

O’Neal’s
The popular bar and restaurant for theatergoers and other Upper West Siders on 64th Street off of Broadway is closing its doors this month to make way for the Atlantic Grill. In a letter to customers, owner Michael O’Neal said the company incurred too much debt during its last renovation. “So rather than further increasing our debt we have made the painful and heart wrenching decision to close.”

Tibet Bazaar
The Tibetan craft store on Amsterdam Avenue between 82nd and 83rd Streets is closing up in July after the owner decided to return home to Nepal. It had been open since 1992. (special thanks to Kate for the tip and photo.)

Energy Kitchen
A new healthy-ish food market (they still serve burgers!) is coming to 142 West 72nd Street between Columbus and Amsterdam Avenues at the site of the old Natural Food Market. Energy Kitchen says it serves nothing that’s over 500 calories.

Grom
The gelato chain has opened a new store on 58th Street and Broadway. On May 7, opening day, the store gave away free gelato, but now you’ll have to pay for it. (via The Real Deal)

Argo Tea
Two doors down from the new Grom  is a new Argo Tea Cafe at 1792 Broadway, the fourth location in New York. Argo serves a wide and eclectic assortment of teas, including mint tea with chewy pieces of aloe in it. (via The Real Deal)

Hudson River Greenway Riverwalk
In a ceremony on May 20 at 11:30 a.m., the city will unveil the final leg of the Hudson River Greenway starting at 83rd Street and ending at 92nd Street, which we wrote about a couple of weeks ago. It is the last piece of the puzzle connecting Battery Park City and the George Washington Bridge along the Hudson.

Area Kids
A new kids’ store is opening up on Amsterdam Avenue between 81st and 82nd Streets. The Brooklyn-based chain touts its locally made and eco-friendly products on its website. This will be the company’s first Manhattan store. We’ll just have to see if it can it compete with the new Giggle just a few blocks away. (via My Upper West)

Grandma’s
The owners  of the former pizza/mac n’ cheese mashup Pinch & S’mac (see below) are opening a new Italian restaurant called Grandma’s on Columbus Avenue between 82nd and 83rd Streets.

Stoopher & Boots
A new gift shop/children’s store is opening up on Amsterdam between 78th and 79th Street. According to its website, it looks like a store for kids (and parents) with a flamboyant streak. Check out the Swarovski Baby Bling Converse princess sneakers ($98). (via My Upper West)

Public Fare
Danny Meyer’s summertime cafe at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park just South of the Great Lawn is open and serving sandwiches and salads. Alcoholic drinks are supposedly coming soon too.

Le Pain Quotidien
The new cafe just North of Sheep Meadow opened on Saturday, serving sandwiches, baked goods and drinks. Starting in late June, the restaurant will also serve vegetarian dinners.

Lincoln Center’s Tilted Lawn
On May 21, Lincoln Center will open its new lawn just off 65th Street to the public. The lawn sits atop a restaurant that is still being constructed. Read more about it here.

SHUT:

Gotham Gardens
The flower and plant store on Amsterdam Avenue between 75th and 76th Streets is closing, and operating out of a loft for the time being. They can still be reached at their old number to do flower arrangements.

Cocofe
The quaint little cafe that opened just a couple of months ago on 72nd Street between West End Avenue and Broadway has already closed (thanks to tipster Adrienne)

Pinch & S’mac
Maybe pizza and mac n’ cheese were never meant to go together. The restaurant on Columbus between 82nd and 83rd  closed its doors earlier this month and will make way for Grandma’s.

Godiva
The chocolatier’s windows on Columbus Avenue between 71st and 72nd Streets are papered over and the inside is completely bare. Either this is a very extensive renovation (with no notice to customers on the door or the store’s answering machine), or the store is vacant. We have a call in and will update if the store is in fact not closed.

Fontainebleau Nails & Spa
The new spa at 155 West 66th Street offers a full slate of services, from manicures to steam treatments and massages. Men can get their chests waxed for $30 and up. And children can even have spa parties. (is that like a pool party?)

Salon 66
A new salon has opened up at 60 West 66th Street, just east of Columbus Avenue.

Mel’s Burger Bar
A mysterious new burger joint is opening in the spot of the old Tomo Japanese restaurant on Broadway between 110th and 11th Streets. (Bwog, for info and photo.)

Prime KO
Last Monday, the Japanese-inspired Kosher steakhouse we told you about a few months ago opened at 217 West 85th Street, off Broadway. It’s also got a sushi bar downstairs (no shellfish, of course!). They also serve “Japanese fries”. Can someone please tell us what those are? The menu is here.

Petco Unleashed
The pet store chain is almost ready to open up in the spot of the former Danskin on Columbus Avenue between 67th and 68th Streets. And they’re hiring! Go to petco.com to apply. (Racked)

AT&T
The AT&T store on 72nd Street just west of Columbus that closed down with a marshal’s order on its door a couple of months ago has reopened, with flags and banners heralding its return.

Verizon
Not to be outdone, a Verizon store is opening just a few blocks up Columbus, at the corner of 75th Street. They’re also hiring.

Two Boots
As we told you a couple of weeks ago, the pizza chain that started in the East Village is coming to Broadway between 95th and 96th Streets. (thanks again to Daren)

Juilliard Bookstore
Juilliard is opening a new bookstore in the Alice Tully Hall building on 66th Street just west of Broadway. Official opening date is May 10.

SHUT:

Juilliard Bookstore Trailer
With the opening of the new bookstore a couple of doors down, the old trailer that used to house the Juilliard bookstore has closed down. Though ugly, it was weirdly iconic, which is like a lot of things in our neighborhood.

Big Daddy’s
The 80’s-style diner at 2454 Broadway (91st Street) that we told you about last year looks like it’s close to opening, although the company hasn’t revealed the date yet. Giggle
The children’s store is opening a new 3,000 square foot location Wednesday at 350 Amsterdam Avenue between 76th and  77th Streets on the ground floor of The Harrison.

Jalapeño
David Ruggerio is expanding his empire, this time opening a Mexican restaurant and bar at 77 West 68th Street. Ruggerio has opened a wide variety of eateries in the area, including Jewish-style deli Lansky’s, Italian donut shop Bomboloni, and Sushi a-go-go. The new restaurant is expected to open in June and serve ceviches, tamales and more, according to documents filed with the community board. The board voted in favor of the restaurant’s liquor license application.

Time Warner Cable
A new Time Warner Cable store is expected to open on 96th Street and Broadway, meaning you won’t have to schlep down to 23rd Street anymore to get a new cable box. The company hasn’t confirmed it to us yet, but our tipster, Ellie, has a good track record.

WNET
The public television company, parent of Channel Thirteen and WLIW21, opens a new street-level television studio today right next to Avery Fisher Hall at 66th Street and Broadway.

The Corner
We told you about the restaurant moving into the old Roth’s Westside Steakhouse at the corner of 93rd and Columbus last month, but its name has already changed from Scratch to The Corner (don’t they know that there can only be one “Corner” on the Upper West Side?). It opened on April 1 and is serving New American cuisine.

Cafe Frida
This Mexican place at 768 Amsterdam Avenue (98th Street) actually opened a couple of months ago in the old spot of Argentinian restaurant La Rural. (via Eating in Translation)

Neo Sushi
The sushi restaurant at 2298 Broadway (83rd Street) has closed its doors.

BarBao
Vietnamese restaurant Barbao at 100 West 82nd Street is done for. Goodbye delicious duck hash.

Corner Cafe and Bakery
The bakery, caterer and restaurant on Broadway between 84th and 85th Streets shut down a few weeks ago.

Jennifer Convertibles
The furniture store on Broadway and 83rd Street had a blowout sale last weekend and closed down. Ashley Furniture may replace it. (MyUpperWest) (our initial article said the store on 89th and Broadway had closed, but it is still open. Thanks to commenter kimdog)

Senor Swanky’s
The Mexican restaurant and Margarita emporium on Amsterdam Avenue between 84th and 85th Street has shuttered and auctioned off its equipment.

Canteen 82
A new restaurant will replace Water Moon, the pan-Asian restaurant on Columbus between 82nd and 83rd that closed recently. It’s unclear what Canteen 82 will be serving, but they’ve been looking to hire some pastry chefs recently.

Scratch
“New American Cuisine” is coming to Columbus Avenue and 93rd Street. Scratch will open at 680 Columbus, the former site of Roth’s Steakhouse, which just closed (see below). It will be run by the same owner and chef as Roth’s, which also plans to eventually reopen at a new location. I’ve never really understood what New American Cuisine meant (can I get mayo with that?) but there is a Wikipedia entry for it, so it must be real.

Scottrade
The online brokerage is moving into a 1,400-square-foot spot at the corner of West 88th Street and Broadway, the site of the former Variazioni clothing store. (New York Post via tipster Daren)

SHUT:

GINA (Gallery of International Naïve Art)
The art gallery at Columbus Avenue and 82nd Street, dedicated to allowing artists to “bare the child-like ruminations of their hearts and souls”, is closing for good on March 31. It was unable to pay its $25,000-a-month rent, one of the managers told us. There is another GINA in Tel Aviv. (thanks to tipster Kate for the heads-up)

The Gap
The apparel retailer has left its prime 10,000-square-foot corner on 86th and Broadway. (Crain’s) – Correction: it’s open. Crain’s was mistaken.

Starbucks
The coffee chain’s location at 98th Street and Broadway closed last month, meaning you will have to walk a whole three blocks to the one on 95th and Broadway. (Thanks to Harriet for the tip and photo)

Eighty One
Ed Brown’s fancy eatery is closing less than two years after it first opened its doors at 45 West 81st Street. It’s food actually earned 26 points from Zagat, no small achievement, but Brown couldn’t convince people to splurge at the restaurant for more than special occasions. It’s last dinner service will be Easter Sunday. (New York Post) (hat-tip to Daren)

Roth’s Westside Steakhouse
The steakhouse at Columbus Avenue and 93rd Street has closed, to be replaced by Scratch (see above). It plans to reopen eventually at a new undisclosed location. (photo via Roth’s)

Water Moon
After weeks of promising to reopen following a “renovation”, the pan-Asian restaurant at 467 Columbus Avenue finally gave in and closed, making way for Canteen 82 (above). (Thanks to tipster Kate)

OPEN:
Cocofe
A new cafe has opened at 244 West 72nd Street, between Broadway and West End Avenue. Cocofe serves all sorts of beverages, including dark chocolate, white chocolate and milk chocolate drinks, as well as paninis, pizzas and other foods.

Bomboloni
It was supposed to open last spring, and then it was supposed to open last fall and then it was supposed to open last weekend. But now, we’re pretty sure it will be really opening its doors on Wednesday, March 17. Will it be worth the wait?

Associated Supermarkets
The supermarket chain is expected to open at 801 Amsterdam Avenue in the Columbus Square development. Can it compete with the Whole Foods just a couple of blocks away? We will soon find out.

Bank of America
A branch of the megabank is expected to move in on the first two floors at 200 West 72nd Street, right next to Trader Joe’s. We don’t expect it to open until the fall.

Urban Outfitters
At first the retailer was supposed to move into the historic Metro Theater, but that space has been saddled with legal troubles and Urban got out of the lease. Now, the company will be moving into a space across the street at 2625 Broadway, between 99th and 100th Streets. The store will be two floors  and about 15,000 square feet. Writopia Lab
A nonprofit that offers creative writing workshops for kids aged 8 to 18 years old has moved into a new space at 155 West 81st Street between Amsterdam and Columbus Avenue, after vacating its old spot on 110th and Broadway.

My Most Favorite Food
The Kosher eatery at 247 West 72nd Street that we told you about last year has been transforming the old Nargila Grill for months now. It will be opening for limited seating on March 25, and will fully open on April 1. (photo and info via Food and Things)

Hippototamus
The children’s clothing store on Amsterdam Avenue between 81st and 82nd Streets has shut down, though it has two other locations in the city and is apparently opening another one this spring, though we’re not sure where.

Pudding Stones Wine Bar
The wine bar on Amsterdam between 90th and 91st Streets has closed, as a group of local bloggers found out after planning to meet there on a recent night.

Crumbs
The baked goods shop on Amsterdam Avenue and 77th Street will close in the next few months and reopen about a block away in The Harrison.

Kikuchi Sushi
A new sushi spot has opened on the corner of 92nd Street and Amsterdam Avenue where Yuki Sushi used to be. The menu looks pretty standard, with teriyakis, tempuras and lots of sushi rolls. But will it be better than its predecessor?

Tangled Vine
This new wine bar/Mediterranean restaurant opens at 434 Amsterdam Avenue off of 81st Street today, serving delicacies like scallops a la plancha and offering a 160-bottle wine list that’s heavy on the Rieslings. Check out the menu here and the wine list here. (both pdfs) (Grubstreet)

Burberry
The luxury British clothing retailer is moving into the 3,000-square-foot space on Columbus Avenue between 67th and 68th Street next to Ugg.

Valley Drugs
A new drugstore has opened at 850 Amsterdam Avenue around 101st Street, previously the site of another drug store.

Vareli
A new restaurant from the people who own Westside Market is opening at 2869 Broadway, between 111th and 112th Streets. It’s expected to have two floors with Mediterranean food and bars on both floors. (Harlem Bespoke)

Elite Unisex Hair Salon
The new salon opened on Amsterdam Avenue between 92nd and 93rd Streets.

AT&T
The store on the South Side of 72nd Street between Amsterdam and Columbus Avenues has closed, and there’s a marshal’s notice taped to the door.

1 Hour Custom Framing
The framing shop on Amsterdam between 79th and 80th Street is moving to Broadway between 78th and 79th.

Prime KO
The people behind the Kosher steakhouse Prime Grill are opening a restaurant called Prime KO at 217 West 85th Street, near Broadway. (the strong buzz)

Graffit
Famous Spanish chef Jesus Nunez is looking to open a tapas restaurant in the space formerly occupied by Levana Kosher restaurant at 141 West 69th Street. Nunez, who used to be a graffiti artist, has been known to make exotic dishes out of sharks and gazelles. We’d like to see him catch a gazelle.

Gazala Place
Have you ever had Druze food? Neither have we, but we’re excited to try some. Hell’s Kitchen already has a Gazala Place, which serves fresh handmade pitas as well as kebabs, cucumber soup, meat pies and salads. Check out the menu. The new spot should open in April at 380 Columbus Avenue (78th Street).

Flywheel
Ex-New York Giant Tiki Barber and spin teacher Ruth Zukerman have opened their gym Flywheel in Chelsea, but they’re planning on opening a spot on the Upper West Side soon too. Location unclear. (New York magazine)

Filene’s Basement
The discount clothing store on Broadway between 79th and 80th Street is expanding by 22,700 feet by moving into the Circuit City on the north end of the block. It will also be adding a tuxedo shop.

SHUT:

Laundromat
The laundromat at 228 West 75th Street is closing after more than 30 years because the landlord declined to offer the owners a new lease. The business will close on Feb. 24 and the owners are asking people to pick up any belongings they may have left before that date.

New York Haircutters
The salon next door to the laundromat on 75th Street has also closed.

Custom Interiors
The kitchen interior business at 73 West 82nd Street has closed and the owners are looking for a new location in the neighborhood. The old phone number still works and the owners are taking calls from customers. (thanks to tipster Kate)
