Upper West Side Apple StoreIn two separate incidents over the past week, a thief stole iPads from right under the noses of UPS drivers who were delivering them to the Upper West Side Apple store.

On Tuesday, at about 9:55 a.m., a UPS driver was stacking boxes of iPads around the corner from the Apple store when a man walked up and grabbed a box of 5 iPads, which start at $499 each, the West Side Spirit reported. The thief fled south on Amsterdam Avenue.

On Thursday at around the same time, one man distracted the driver, who was stacking boxes on a hand truck, by asking for directions while another grabbed a box and booked it down Broadway. Police suspect the crimes were pulled off by the same person, a source told the Spirit. As of Friday, no one had been caught.

I’m glad the UPS driver wasn’t harmed. Apple is going to have to provide security for product deliveries.
