Sparrows Living Inside UWS Traffic Light

birdsPut this in the “Only in New York” file. A family of sparrows has made a home inside a traffic signal on the Upper West Side, crawling in and out through a hole in the side of the signal, according to the New York Post. The Post does not specify on what corner the sparows are nesting, perhaps to keep the Department of Transportation from removing them (the DOT tells the newspaper that it will evict the sparrows if it finds them.)

The Post says sparrows, despite their adorable demeanor, ¬†are ruthless and tough, and may have even kicked out another birds’ nest before moving in. Frankly, I cannot believe birds that cute would do a thing like that. Do you? (thumbnail via New York Post)

If you like cute animals, it might be worth checking out this adorable seal on a West Side pier too.
