I Have Now Eaten Bomboloni from Bomboloni

bomboloni3 We said we would not declare Bomboloni officially open until an Italian donut was literally in my mouth, and…hold on, an Italian donut is literally in my mouth. The Westside Independent has officially consumed one Bomboloni and may be returning tomorrow for seconds. The store, on Columbus Avenue between 68th and 69th Street, opened today after getting Con Ed to finally turn on the gas.

The bomboloni (plural of bombolone) cost $1 each, or six for $5. Flavors now include vanilla and raspberry, but they will soon be adding others like roasted chestnut and passion fruit.

The shop also serves gelato — an olive oil gelato is even on the menu — and is apparently going to be serving other breakfast and lunch foods too, including breakfast sandwiches and panini.

And the staff actually speaks Italian (or at least will greet you with “Buona Sera”), which is frankly adorable. (Photo by Avi)
