Carbon Monoxide gas at buildings on 76th Street between Columbus Avenue and Central Park West forced 35 people to evacuate on Sunday, the New York Post reported. High levels of the potentially lethal gas compelled authorities to empty 8 brownstones and townhouses around 3:30 p.m., though residents were allowed to return by the evening. It’s unclear what caused the high gas levels.
