Forgive the exclamation points, but free donuts tend to make us very, very happy! Bomboloni, the Italian donut shop at 187 Columbus Avenue (between 68th and 69th Streets), owned by restaurateur David Ruggerio, the man behind nearby Sushi a-go-go and Lansky’s, is actually about to open. The shop, which will sell special Italian donuts filled with lemon zest, Tahitian vanilla and other creams, had pledged to open numerous times before, but visitors have seen nothing but plywood for months now.

UPDATED HERE.

Bomboloni will open on Friday or Saturday and will be offering free donuts the day before it opens, according to tipster Robin, who talked to the proprietor and snapped the above picture on Tuesday afternoon. We’re considering getting in line now.
