traderConstruction at the new building on the corner of 72nd Street and Broadway is ongoing, and there are still no signs of Trader Joe’s imminent arrival on the ground floor, but that should change in a few months. Trader Joe’s will take over the retail space at 200 West 72nd Street in March and is expected to complete renovations by August, according to City Councilwoman Gale Brewer.

The company has not yet released an opening date for its store at 72nd Street and Broadway, but it sounds like it could be the end of the summer or early fall as long as the renovation goes according to plan.

Update: a company spokeswoman wouldn’t discuss anything about the store’s schedule, including the opening date.

How does Gale Brewer feel about all of the hubbub over Trader Joe’s? “I don’t get as excited as others about the opening of large stores.”

She may be the only person in the neighborhood who is not going stark raving mad waiting for this store to open. Read all of our previous Trader Joe’s coverage here. (photo by mag3737 via flickr)
