Nutty Obama-Haters Leaflet-Bomb the Upper West Side

Tea-partiers dropped thousands of leaflets all over 68th Street and Broadway on Wednesday afternoon, covering the area with poems and statements attacking the president.

The papers apparently had poetry and angry statements screaming “Fuck you Obama” and attacking “Liberals, Commies, Satans and Pagans,” Gawker reported.

They even wrote a satirical “Sorry Ass State of the Union.” (check out the pictures Gawker has below.)

When we checked out the scene around 7 p.m., the leaflets were no longer there, but there were lots of police officers in the area, and they were not the kind who give you a ticket for double-parking. The city sent at least a half-dozen Emergency Service Unit (ESU) officers to the scene. The ESU is the team the city sends when it has what cop shows would refer to as “a situation.” They are sort of like a SWAT team, but often with even more advanced training. On Wednesday, most of them were were standing in front of Ollie’s on Broadway between 67th and 68th Streets, outfitted with some serious firepower and not interested in chatting. “Routine patrol,” one told us, when asked why they were there. Another officer stood in front of the building next door with a German Shepherd tightly leashed by his side.
