Now on the Menu at Local Soup Kitchen: Caviar!

Broadway Community, a soup kitchen on 114th Street and Broadway whose nutritious meals we wrote about earlier this year, got a very generous donation this week. An unnamed donor dropped off an $1,100 tin of Petrossian caviar that will be served for Wednesday dinner, according to the blog Pouncenow. It sounds like the caviar will be served with blinis and creme fraiche.
So, homeless people will be dining on delicious caviar this week, while you get the Recession Special at Gray’s Papaya. Yes, we know what you’re thinking. Don’t do it.
By the way, this story brings to mind one of the great Christmas stories — H.L. Mencken’s piece about the massive party once thrown for the homeless people of Baltimore, titled “Stare Decisis,” or “A Bum’s Christmas.” (thumbnail via PounceNow)

I can’t wait for Valentine’s Day at the soup kitchen. Those Godiva truffles ought to be delicious.
