Open and Shut: Toys, Slurpees and Donuts Come to Town

A special holiday season Open and Shut brings lots of goodies to the neighborhood, including a new toy store, the imminent opening of the Upper West Side’s first 7-Eleven, and a new Tim Hortons (as well as a Tim Hortons that closed). There are also some exciting openings on the horizon for 2010.

OPEN:

HomBoms
A new toy store has opened on Columbus between 79th and 80th Streets just in time for the holidays. HomBom toys already has a location on the Upper East Side that gets some good and some not-so-good reviews.

Tim Hortons
Ever get an ice cream with tons of toppings and think: this really needs a donut on the side? Well, Cold Stone Creamery on 72nd Street between Broadway and Columbus Avenue now has you covered. Tim Hortons is sharing the space.

Gracefully
The boutique grocer has signed a lease for 6,400 square feet of ground floor retail space at 101 West End Avenue on West 64th Street, where Domain Furniture used to be. It should be open by July. (Crain’s New York)

7-Eleven
The 7-Eleven we first told you about back in September is apparently close to opening, according to a commenter at The Real Deal. It would be the first of its kind on the Upper West Side.

Big Daddy’s
The retro diner chain is planning to open a spot on Broadway and 91st Street in January or February 2010. Pancakes, burgers, shakes, and more. (photo and info from foodandthings)

Le Pain Quotidien
The bakery and sandwich shop plans to open an 80-seat cafe by Sheep Meadow after winning a license from the city. The cafe is also hoping to serve alcohol.

SHUT:
Tim Hortons

The donut shop on Broadway between 95th and 96th Streets has apparently closed. But do not fret. Just take the 2 or 3 train one stop to the new Tim Hortons/Cold Stone Creamery on 72nd (see above)! (thanks to tipster Gretchen)

I’m sure we missed something. If you’ve seen a business that recently opened or closed let us know and send us a picture if you can!

I would like to know what is opening up at Broadway between 87-88 st on the west side of the street.

It is going to be half of the block so that’s big for our neighborhood.

I have read nothing at the blogs I always look at…and my questions go unanswered.
