Hoo-ah! Al Pacino Coming to Shakespeare in the Park

by Avi - December 7, 2009 at 3:42 pm -

pacino1Next summer expect lines for Shakespeare in the Park to stretch deep into the woods as Al Pacino takes on the role of Shylock in Shakespeare’s “Merchant of Venice” at the Delacorte Theatre. Pacino, who hasn’t acted in a play in New York since 2003, according to Bloomberg, will reprise his role from the 2004 film version of Merchant of Venice, which was well-received (it was slightly kinder to the Jewish people than some earlier versions, for instance). Shakespeare’s “The Winter’s Tale” will also go up at the Delacorte this summer, according to an announcement from the Public Theater.

This past summer Anne Hathaway drew ridiculous crowds willing to virtually camp out in the park to get tickets to Twelfth Night. But watch out Anne. You may have met your match! (Photo by blixt via flickr)
