After months of uncertainty among bargain-hunting foodies, “your neighborhood grocery store” really is coming to the neighborhood.

Trader Joe’s, a California-based chain known for its organic milk, low-price wine and MSG-free products will open on 72nd Street and Broadway in 2010.

We reported in September the Upper West Side opening was in doubt based on an e-mail from Trader Joe’s customer service, which said the company had no confirmed plans. But DNA Info reported Friday the store is slated to open at 72nd Street and Broadway.

Alison Mochizuki, a Trader Joe’s spokesperson, says the store opening was never in doubt, despite the customer service agent’s previous statement. “72nd and Broadway is slated to open sometime next year,” she said, adding the official date hasn’t been released, although it’s definitely set for 2010.

Mochizuki wouldn’t say how big the Upper West Side store will be or when the lease was signed, but she did say it happened recently.

She also wouldn’t say why the company chose the location on the Upper West Side, which will be New York City’s fourth Trader Joe’s since the Union Square store opened in March of 2009.

“We don’t disclose what goes into our decision-making process,” she said.

Along with its original Union Square store, Trader Joe’s has also found homes in Brooklyn and Queens. And on Nov. 12, the New York Observer reported the city’s fifth store will open on 22nd Street.
