rosadoA crash on the West Side Highway near 96th street injured seven people and took the life of an 11-year-old girl early Sunday morning. Carmen Huertas was driving North on the West Side Highway around 12:45 a.m. when she lost control of her Mercury Sable and the car flipped over the railing and into a tree, police told Newsday.

Huertas was driving drunk with seven girls in the car for a sleepover at her Bronx apartment, police said. Leandra Rosado, 11, was taken to St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital and pronounced dead less than an hour later. The other girls also sustained injuries, including broken bones and contusions. Huertas was arrested at the scene and charged with vehicular manslaughter and driving drunk, Newsday reported.

Leandra’s father Lenny Rosado told CBS Radio he was working at his job as a security guard when the crash occurred.

“Oh, I flipped, I flipped. I was in the conference room and I flipped the table that was there. I threw two chairs,” Rosado said. “And the first thing I said is, ‘I found what I got to do with my life.’ It’s go to City Hall, go to Congress, go to the White House and they have to have stronger laws against drunken drivers.” (image of Leandra Rosado via Newsday)

Okay, here we see another case of a person driving drunk in a car with a bunch of kids, What the hell are these people thinking of, how can this lady put all these kids at risk and even her own daughter, I just can’t believe that no one at this party stopped her, Are you freaking kidding me, Why are people so stupid now a days, everyone knows what there limits are in regards to drinking and this lady had to have known that she was incapable of driving a vechile, I feel so bad for that poor father who was raising this kid all by himself, he lost his baby, his princess, his world. And all she can say is I’m sorry, well you should be, I believe that there should be more penatlies against drunk driving, This poor little girl didn’t get to live her life to the fullest and become someone in this life so this woman should stay in prison for the rest of her life. She should be reminded of what she did for the rest of her life, 15 years is not long enough for someone to be in jail if they injuryed or killed someone because of there stupidity, laws need to be tougher and she should be set as an example. You can’t get in a car and drive drunk and think its okay, People need to start thinking twice about getting in a car drunk. We can’t stop all these morons from driving druck but we sure can stop some. As for the people who knew that she was drunk and they continued to let her get in this car with these innocent children they should also get convicted. How can you let this lady put 7 kids in her truck drunk and stand there and do nothing, blame is to fall on these people also. Now these poor kids are suffering because of this, This woman’s daughter has to live her life knowing her mother made the biggest mistake in the world and because of it, a life was taken. How is this child suppose to survive in this world with that weight on her shoulders. This makes me so damn mad and I am so aggravated that this woman will only get 15 yrs when honestly she deserves life with no parole in prison. Lets just charge her for 7 deaths instead of one, because that could of been the outcome.
