Open and Shut: Welcome to the Neighborhood, New Jersey

This week, New Jersey came to the Upper West Side. No, not New Jerseyans, though they were here too. New Jersey’s tourism office is actually opening a storefront in the neighborhood, right on the corner of 73rd and Columbus where the Belle Epoque poster shop used to be. You cannot meet Tony Soprano there, but there are pictures of apples and other things you can buy in New Jersey. With that, let’s review what’s opening and closing in the neighborhood.
OPEN:

The Sunburnt Cow in the East Village
The Sunburnt Calf
The East Village hotspot Sunburnt Cow is opening a restaurant on the Upper West Side — specifically 79th Street between Broadway and Amsterdam. The downtown restaurant/bar is famous for its all-you-can-drink brunches. The man who answered the phone at the Sunburnt Cow said he expects the Calf to open by the end of the year. (thanks to twitterer Gavan Vogler who spotted the Sunburnt Cow van. Picture via Yelp.)

Pet Fashion
Is your pet’s wardrobe a little ho-hum? Well, fret no more because Pet Fashion has opened up on Columbus between 87th and 88th Streets. The store offers grooming, pet sitting, boarding, pet food, dog walking, fashion and jewelry.

Fall for New Jersey
New Jersey’s tourism office is opening up on the corner of 73rd and Columbus claiming “great getaways are just minutes away.” The office will officially open on Tuesday and will probably remain open through November, one staff member said.
Bomboloni
David Ruggerio will be frying Italian donuts on Columbus Avenue and 68th Street and filling them with Tahitian vanilla, lemon zest and other creams. The sign on the window still says the store will open in the spring (it was delayed), but the Times pegs October 12 as the opening date.
I’m sure we missed something. If you’ve seen a business that recently opened or closed let us know and send us a picture if you can!
