Open and Shut: Hello Aangan, Goodbye Comida Mercado

by Avi - September 8, 2009 at 3:34 pm -

This week, we say goodbye to Comida Mercado Fresco, which succumbed to a fire in July. But lots of new restaurants and stores are moving in to the Upper West Side. Here’s what open and shut:

OPEN:
gina

Gina La Fornarina
The upscale Italian restaurant will open soon at the corner of 73rd and Amsterdam, where the P&G Bar used to be. Another Gina La Fornarina opened on the Upper East Side a few weeks ago. Commenters on Yelp are already complaining about the East Side spot’s prices going up within the first few weeks.

Raymour & Flanigan
It looks like the furniture chain is moving into the spot of the old Circuit City at 1961 Broadway at 66th Street. (thanks to tipster Scott)

Ed’s Chowder House
On Sept. 17, Ed Brown is opening a new seafood restaurant that will take the place of Jeffrey Chodhorow’s Center Cut in the Empire Hotel at 44 West 63rd Street. (New York Times)

Aangan
A new Indian spot has opened on 103rd and Broadway. The menu indicates it’s featuring northern Indian cuisine, with lots of Tandoori oven dishes. (thanks to tipster Bharat)

SHUT:
Comida Mercado Fresco
The Mexican restaurant on Columbus and 82nd Street suffered a disastrous fire in July and will close down for good. It had been open less than a year. (Eater)
